I had the hiccups and was very irritated by them so my question for the week is what is a hiccup, how did I get it, and how do I make them go away? Hiccups are contractions of the diaphragm muscle. When your diaphragm gets irritated it contracts in a jerking way. Now, this jerking makes you suck air into your throat and when the air does this, it hits your vocal box and out pops a hiccup.
